Sara Gill Khan or should we say Dr Sara Gill Khan – First Ever Transgender Doctor in Pakistan | MediUpdates | 33 yr old Dr Sara Gill Khan became Pakistan’s first-ever transgender doctor on Tuesday after passing her MBBS examination. Her journey has not been an easy one. She joined Jinnah Medical and Dental College in 2010 where she was forced to enroll as a male at the insistence of her parents. They had been worried about the “loss of respect” if others found out, and threatened to stop paying for her education. Which eventually did happen and she had to make ends meet herself. She paid for food, clothing, shelter, everything herself, having days where she could barely afford to have just a single small meal.
Dr Sara Gill Khan was suicidal.
Things became better when a program selected her for the ‘International Visitor Leadership Program’ (IVLP). She says it was the first time she was given respect due to her gender. A completely changed happy person, she says, “No one can stop you from achieving something if you’re passionate about it. There are difficulties in life. “She tells the transgender community not to lose hope and if she can become a doctor, then any of them can too through hard work.
Dr Sara Gill Khan’s parents have also now accepted her after she became a doctor.
Transgender are routinely thrown out of their homes. They are ridiculed and violence is frequently inflicted on them. I think it is high time, we all changed that and started giving them respect and rights. So there can be more Sara Gills.

اس کا سفر آسان نہیں رہا۔ اس نے 2010 میں جناح میڈیکل اینڈ ڈینٹل کالج میں داخلہ لیا جہاں اسے اپنے والدین کے اصرار پر بطور مرد داخلہ لینے پر مجبور کیا گیا۔ وہ “عزت کے نقصان” کے بارے میں فکر مند تھے اگر دوسروں کو پتہ چلا، اور اس کی تعلیم کی ادائیگی بند کرنے کی دھمکی دی۔ جو بالآخر ہوا اور اسے خود ہی ختم کرنا پڑا۔ اس نے خوراک، لباس، رہائش، سب کچھ خود ادا کیا، ایسے دن تھے جب وہ بمشکل ایک چھوٹا سا کھانا کھا سکتی تھی۔
وہ خودکشی کر رہی تھی۔
حالات اس وقت بہتر ہو گئے جب ایک پروگرام نے اسے ‘انٹرنیشنل وزیٹر لیڈرشپ پروگرام’ (IVLP) کے لیے منتخب کیا۔ وہ کہتی ہیں کہ یہ پہلی بار تھا کہ اسے اس کی جنس کی وجہ سے عزت دی گئی۔
ایک مکمل طور پر تبدیل شدہ خوش انسان، وہ کہتی ہیں، “اگر آپ کسی چیز کے بارے میں پرجوش ہیں تو آپ کو حاصل کرنے سے کوئی نہیں روک سکتا۔ زندگی میں مشکلات آتی ہیں۔”
وہ ٹرانس جینڈر کمیونٹی سے کہتی ہیں کہ امید نہ ہاریں اور اگر وہ ڈاکٹر بن سکتی ہیں تو ان میں سے کوئی بھی سخت محنت سے بن سکتا ہے۔
ڈاکٹر بننے کے بعد اب اس کے والدین نے بھی اسے قبول کر لیا ہے۔
خواجہ سراؤں کو معمول کے مطابق گھروں سے نکال دیا جاتا ہے۔ ان کا مذاق اڑایا جاتا ہے اور ان پر اکثر تشدد کیا جاتا ہے۔ میرے خیال میں اب وقت آگیا ہے، ہم سب نے اسے تبدیل کیا اور انہیں عزت اور حقوق دینا شروع کردیئے۔ تو اور سارہ گلز ہو سکتی ہیں۔
