What is the Langya Virus? Know the signs and how fatal it is? A zoonotic virus called the Langya Virus has been found in China

"

"

It can spread from animals to people. In cases of severe infection, the Langya Henipavirus can kill up to 75 percent of people.

"

"

In eastern China's Henan and Shandong provinces, 35 instances of the Henipavirus, commonly known as the Langya Virus (LayV), have been detected.

"

"

The newly discovered zoonotic Langya virus has caused anxiety amid the COVID-19 and monkeypox cases that are already making the rounds.

"

"

In 2019, there was a first-case report of the Langya virus. The Langya virus is a pathogen with a biosafety level 4 (BSL4) classification.

"

"

Since the Langya virus is a zoonotic virus, it may spread from animals to people. The Langya virus is still without a vaccine or effective treatments.

"

"

The recently identified zoonotic virus is a "phylogenetically different Henipavirus," according to a research titled "A Zoonotic Henipavirus in Febrile Patients in China" that was just published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

"

"

The earlier found Henipavirus type also includes the Mojiang, Ghanian, Cedar, Nipah, and Hendra viruses. Of them, it is known that Nipah and Hendra have sickened people fatally. According to the findings, the Langya virus' genomic arrangement resembles that of other henipaviruses.

"

"

When people contract the Langya virus, it has the potential to be lethal. The deadly Nipah virus, which is generally found in bats, and Langya are both members of the same viral family.

"

Similar to COVID-19, nipah spreads by respiratory droplets, but it is far more hazardous because it may kill up to 75% of people. Nipah has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the pandemic's most likely source.
