It was first reported to be a magnitude 3 earthquake, with the epicentre at Kilcoy in D'Aguilar National Park near Mount Byron.

It was unlikely to have caused substantial damage, according to Hadi Ghasemi, a senior seismologist at Geoscience Australia. He told ABC Radio Brisbane, "It would have felt like a huge vehicle or heavy truck was passing by."

"There's always the chance of aftershocks, but considering that this earthquake wasn't very devastating... "Any aftershocks would be less than this and would likely only be noticed locally," he told Scott Emerson.
